3 Ways to Fill Your Events with FOMO

We live in a culture that doesn’t want to miss anything. FOMO is the fear of missing out. It’s why people are glued to their phones. It’s why they wait in line for midnight releases of movies and video games, never mind blow-out sales!

The good news is, there are some easy ways to capitalize on FOMO to get more attention for your events.

Start by creating a discount code that expires a few weeks before the event. Use phrases like “limited time,” “don’t forget,” or “this offer expires in 72 hours.” It will encourage people to buy tickets early and share with their friends.

If admission is free, offer a “free gift” for the first 100 people that RSVP. Post about how you’re “almost to 100 RSVPs.” Make sure your audience knows that they could lose out on this deal, and soon. The goal is to make it seem as though tickets are scarce.

You can also create a contest surrounding your event. Maybe the prize is VIP access and a behind the scenes tour or an exclusive meet-and-greet. The perks can vary depending on your event and your goals. One thing is, you want to ask for an email in exchange for entry. You build your list. They get a chance to win. Give extra entries for sharing the contest on social media.
