Ignoring public relations gives your competitors a winning advantage
Ignoring public relations gives your competitors a winning advantage
Before Covid, a U.S small business had an 8-in-10 chance of surviving its first year, and a 5-in-10 chance of making it to the fifth year. Then Covid hit.
That’s why the Commonwealth of Massachusetts created the Express Grants program. Last year alone, it awarded $3.5 million in grants to teach businesses skills in a wide variety of areas. This year, public relations training is one of them. Yet most small businesses know little about how to generate free PR.
Through the Express Grants program, the Department of Unemployment will reimburse your business up to $9,000 to learn the fine art of public relations, a vital component of marketing. The program is called PR for Small Business 901 or 902, a comprehensive public relations training program.
Applying for an Express Grant is Easy

The Mass Express Grant application process is far easier and faster than applying for Massachusetts SBA loans.
It takes less than an hour if you follow a few guidelines. (I’ll show you how).

Covid 19 has disrupted sales, the looming recession has you concerned, and lead generation could be improved.

To be eligible for full reimbursement:
Apply for a MA Express grant and get approved for PR for Small Business 901 or 902 training.
Have your W2 employees take the public relations training. You’ll need two or three part-time or full-time employees to get the grant.
Request reimbursement after the 12-week PR training is complete, and you’ve paid in full. I’ll help you process the paperwork.
Funds are typically reimbursed within 6-8 weeks after submitting proof of payment.
You’ll get details on the grant and instructions for reimbursement when you’re approved, which usually takes 3 – 4 weeks.
Here’s How to Apply
STEP #1:
Go to the Express Grant website where you’ll see instructions on how to apply and the information you’ll need for the Express Grant application; ie, your Federal EIN Number, your DUA member (that’s the number you use for payroll), a Certificate of Good Standing from Mass Tax Connect, course number, contact details, etc.

Not sure if you qualify?
The best way to see if you’re eligible is to schedule a 30-minute call with me. I’ll tell you if I think you’re a good candidate (most businesses are).
Since the Express Program is basically free (after paying in full and receiving reimbursement) interest has been high. Because you’ll work directly with me, I can only accept a limited number of businesses per month, so when my schedule is full, it’s full. You’ll have to wait for the next opening.
My advice is to apply for the Express Grant now. It’s risk-free. There’s no-cost or obligation. You can start when you’re ready. If your small business qualifies, there’s $30,000 each calendar year for training. That’s a lot of money to grow your business. Include Marketing Plan 901 or 902 and my new PR for Small Business training as part of your 2023 marketing budget. (Both courses are ultimately free).
